fitting clothes

Are you confused by baggy pouches of volume, mysterious drag lines and gaping armholes?

We’ve got you covered with this new fitting series where we’re looking at real life examples of some fitting fails and showing you step by step how to fix them on your pattern.

Over six sessions we will cover six different problems, focusing not only on what the issue is and how to fix, but also why the garment is behaving this way and how you can recognise similar fit issues in your sewing.

Bust Fitting

November 21st | 8pm (GMT) | Zoom

Fitting busts comes with lots of challenges, especially when you have creatively placed darts like this example.

Join us and learn exactly what’s happening here, how to spot bust fitting issues, correct this fitting problem and remove the sagginess around the bust so that it fits the model perfectly!

Trouser Rise Fitting

December 19th | 8pm (GMT) | Zoom

Pleated trousers are a staple piece for every wardrobe but not if they don’t fit you properly!

In this session we’ll explain why this trouser has a large amount of excess around the rise, creating this very unflattering fold and tightness.
We’ll show you how you can spot and correct this issue on your own sewing to avoid baggy crotches and extra folds of fabric in your trousers.

Sleeve Fitting

January 16th | 8pm (GMT) | Zoom

Sleeves and armholes are something that often leaves even the most experienced sewers scratching their heads!

In this session we’ll explain what’s causing the excess fabric, deep drag lines and twisting of this sleeve. We don’t stop there though, you’ll also learn how to fix the issue on your pattern so that you can make sure your sleeves don’t have this issue!

Tummy Fitting

February 20th | 8pm (GMT) | Zoom

We all love an elegant pair of trousers, but often the simplest garments are the hardest to fit.

This months example has drag lines and tension across the front waist and tummy area, and as we move up the size range these drag lines will become even more prominent.

We’ll tell you why we’re seeing this issue, what it means for your trousers and pattern, and how to correct and avoid this mistake in your pattern cutting.

Neckline Fitting

March 19th | 8pm (GMT) | Zoom

If the words “gaping neckline” brings up nightmare memories for you, you’re not alone!

In this session we’re deep diving into a square neck style that’s gone a little awry.

We’ll explain what’s happening here, why the neckline is gaping so badly and how the armhole, neckline and sleeves are all connected.
As always, we’ll also be showing you how to fix this on your pattern to avoid having this mistake in your garments.

Bodice Fitting

April 16th | 8pm (BST) | Zoom

For our final session of this series, and we’re looking an example with multiple issues!

This leather top should fit like a second skin, but it’s dragging down the torso, straining across the shoulders and gaping through the armholes.

This can all be fixed with some simple changes, join us and learn the theory behind these issues, why balance is so important and how to correct the pattern so that the garment will fit perfectly next time.
